Construction crews are making good progress at the site of the new Pacific Middle School. The new middle school replacement building is scheduled to open in September 2027. The project is on schedule and within budget.

Project Update

Earthwork and construction activities are ongoing to install underground stormwater systems, utilities, the elevator pit, and begin the foundations for the new building. Here is an overview of activities and progress:

  • Formwork and rebar for footings installed on the west side of the site.
  • Anchor bolts are being placed in braced frame footings.
  • Concrete pours for the footings began.
  • Crews excavated and prepared the elevator pit.
  • Deep underground plumbing continues on the south end of the site, working east.
  • Hundreds of geothermal wells are being drilled deep under the west end of the site where a soccer field will be constructed above the wells. The geothermal wells will connect to the HVAC system for heating and cooling.
  • Surveys, trenching and layout for utilities began.
  • Giant yellow storm chambers are being delivered and installed in rows within large, excavated areas. This storm water detention system creates holding space for stormwater directly above a layered filtration system.
  • Work to resolve the conflict between the fire hydrant water line and existing storm line has been completed, and the pedestrian pathway on the southwest edge of the site is open and accessible.
  • The first concrete pour (a slab on grade) for the main gym is expected near the end of October.
