School Psychologists Help Students Learn and Feel Their Best
Supporting learning, belonging and well-being for every student
Each November, schools across the country celebrate National School Psychology Week. The week recognizes the vital contributions school psychologists make to help students thrive in school, at home, and in life.
This year’s theme, “Finding Your Path,” highlights how school psychologists help students, families, and school communities set and achieve their goals. Through consultation, collaboration, and evidence-based practices, they help others navigate challenges and discover tools to succeed.
Honoring Our School Psychologists
In Highline, we are proud to have 25 school psychologists and two school psychologist interns serving students from preschool through graduation. Every day, they play an essential role in supporting students’ academic, social and emotional well-being.
At McMicken Heights and Marvista Elementary, school psychologist Marci Anderson Youngstrom says her favorite part of the job is working directly with students.
“Every day is different, but every day is about helping students learn and feel their best at school. My goal is to help students better understand their own strengths and needs. I love to interview students, learn about their perceptions and preferences in learning, and help them set goals for success.”
Marci Anderson Youngstrom
School psychologists assess learning needs, partner with families and teachers, and ensure every child receives the right support to learn and grow.
We’re also celebrating several of our department’s outstanding leaders, each a strong example of the best in their field:
Diviya Mathai – Madrona & Mount Rainier
Diviya consistently brings a positive attitude and supports our interns and new hires. She finds the silver lining in challenges and keeps our team moving forward.
Haley Miller – North Hill & Midway
Haley serves as a lead psychologist for Highline and also supports North Hill and Midway elementary schools. In her leadership role, she helps oversee department operations, including coordinating testing supplies, partnering with special education administrators, and facilitating monthly department meetings.
Jessica Wada – Shorewood & Mount View
Jessica is a calm, collected, and fierce advocate for students. Her steady leadership helps ensure every student receives the support they need.
Olivia Seger – Beverly Park & Midway
Katina Hoang – Sylvester, Gregory Heights & Mount View
Olivia and Katina both interned in Highline last year and are now valued colleagues. They represent the future of our department—resourceful, thoughtful, and deeply committed to students and families.
